To better acquaint the public with the organisations participating in OUTing the Past 2018, Festival Hub partners have been generously offering insight to their backgrounds and histories. We are most pleased to be share with you the below blurb regarding the Manchester Hub.
People’s History Museum (PHM) is a national museum, based in Manchester – the radical city where it belongs. The museum tells the story of the development of democracy in Britain, celebrating the radical thinkers whose big ideas have shaped our society. The museum provides opportunities for people of all ages to learn about, be inspired by and get involved in ideas worth fighting for; ideas such as equality, social justice, co-operation, representation and a fair world for all.
Festival Hub Host
For the third consecutive year, PHM is thrilled to be hosting OUTing the Past, especially as it will continue the legacy of the museum’s theme for 2017 and special exhibition, Never Going Underground: The Fight for LGBT+ Rights. Curated by members of the local LGBT+ community, to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, the exhibition explored and celebrated those who campaigned and continue to campaign for equality for LGBT+ people. PHM is dedicated to continue telling these stories through unique, innovative and diverse voices. OUTing the Past 2018 will give us a fantastic opportunity to carry on voicing these stories.
