Without further ado: the National Maritime Museum.
‘Rum, Sodomy and the Lash!’
This year is our third LGBT History Month at Royal Museums Greenwich and we have an incredibly exciting programme planned!
2018 is a special year for the National Maritime Museum, as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project we are opening 4 new galleries in September 2018 that will explore maritime history from across the world and from new diverse perspectives. As part of the elad-up to this join us throughout February for our season of LGBT History Month events. In particular we are proud to be hosting an evening of powerful speakers on LGBTQ+ world identities as part of Outing the Past: The 3rd National Festival of LGBT History on Friday the 9th of February from 18:00-21:00.
The National Maritime Museum ‘OUTing The Past’ evening will focus on the theme of LGBTQ+ people around the world and throughout history in honour of our new horizon-expanding galleries. Visitors will have an opportunity to hear from three amazing speakers, join in the conversation and hear about some of the exciting work relating to LGBTQ+ people that will be on permanent display at the Museum later in the year.
Speakers will include:
•Cheryl Morgan – Die Young, Stay Pretty: Women Warriors in the Ancient World
•Lindsay Ward – Increase in Trans Awareness Across the World
Throughout LGBT History Month 2018 the National Maritime Museum will be running a whole host of events, including:
–Out At Sea is our annual family festival of LGBTQ history, join us on the 10th of February for a free day of workshops, performances and activities!
-On the 23rd of February we will be running our first ever queer takeover of the Queens House. Book a ticket for Fierce Queens, a gender-bending extravaganza!
